Marge Casey + associates. Olaf Hauschulz.

Olaf Hauschulz, a German-born photographer, has been shooting automobile and landscape images for over fifteen years. His affinity for working with innovative lighting creates dreamlike images, which have often been described as almost a futuristic approach to photography. Olaf?s own description of his approach to shooting cars in particular is that ?each brand and car has its own distinctive character and it is important for me to work in a way that strengthens that unique character and design.?

Innovative and inspiring, Olaf?s success began after spending five years in Hannover, where he was accepted to the German Association of Photographers as one of the three youngest members ever admitted. Olaf then began to shoot for national magazines and advertising companies in Europe.

In 1997, he setup a studio in Hamburg, the center of photography in Germany, and immediately began working with two of the top ad agencies in Germany: JungvonMatt and Springer & Jacoby. By 2000, Olaf was shooting for European agencies from Great Britain, France, Italy, Czech Republic and Germany on location throughout Europe and South Africa.

In 2004, Olaf garnered worldwide notice for his first worldwide campaign for the Mercedes CLS. This innovative and visual campaign was used in Canada, all over Europe, South Africa, and New Zealand.

Olaf?s international acclaim helped inspire his US appeal. In 2004 he was awarded the New Infiniti M campaign. In 2005 Olaf shot every campaign for both Mitsubishi and Infiniti in the U.S. and, in the process helped those companies to build corporate brand visual identities.

Olaf?s international and culturally diverse experiences shooting with a wide variety of clients and agencies has sensitized him to the different worldwide ?souls? of brands. With each project he tries to work toward a unique look for each campaign that is uniquely driven by the product?s individual brand positioning.

His most recent work has been his continuing association and successful collaboration with Infiniti. He has accompanied the brand since 2004 on most of their international campaigns. His most current project for this brand in 2008 is for its European launch.

Also in 2008 his collaboration with Acura has grown to include his first worldwide ?not car? campaign for Microsoft with Crispin, Porter & Bogusky. In 2008 he will also direct his first car commercial.

Care of Ward 81: Photographs and text by Bill Diodato. Foreword by Mary Ellen Mark.
Golden Section Publishing, 2010. 64 pp., 46 color and black & white illustrations., 106.
This is Bill's first monograph. Care of Ward 81 is the first of two books on the subject. Located at the Oregon State Mental Hospital (the hospital where One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest was filmed in 1976), Ward 81 was set up as a psychiatric ward to help women in need by providing them with medical attention and isolation.
From the Introduction by Bill Diodato:
"Entering Ward 81, I found each room vibrated with pastel colors, some walls even adorned with curiously upbeat art from the patients. All this beauty was contrasted with a dense chalky air, earthy odor and constant crackling of debris beneath my feet...In the end, I can't say where exactly the many sleepless nights I spent pondering what happened to the women of Ward 81 have taken me. I simply do not know. If, by chance, it helps even just one woman and her family, I rest my head with a renewed sense of hope."- Bill Diodato
