Marge Casey + associates. John Blais.

John?s photographic talent certainly runs in the family. After returning home from Rome where he studied painting, sculpture and photography on a scholarship, John?s grandmother had a gift waiting for him ? three antique large format cameras that belonged to his great grandfather who was a well-known photographer in Paris in the late 1800?s. All his life, John had been so passionately working at photography ? not knowing, until now, about the natural talent he had inherited from his family. Days later, John left his hometown of Albany, NY for NYC to pursue his dreams of being the best at what he loves the most ? photography.

Throughout 20 years of a successful career, John has applied his passion for photography to every genre ? people, food, reportage, interiors and fashion. One thing about his work remains clear and constant: it is consistently real and intimate. John?s style is most influenced by his idol, Henri Cartier Bresson.

After living in Miami and New York City for most of his career, John has settled at the shore with his wife and 3 year old son, in Madison, CT.

John?s work has appeared in Conde Nast Traveler, Martha Stewart Living, Self, Bon Appetit, and advertising campaigns for Verizon Wireless, Pepsi, Timberland, Campbells, Crisco, among many others.

Care of Ward 81: Photographs and text by Bill Diodato. Foreword by Mary Ellen Mark.
Golden Section Publishing, 2010. 64 pp., 46 color and black & white illustrations., 106.
This is Bill's first monograph. Care of Ward 81 is the first of two books on the subject. Located at the Oregon State Mental Hospital (the hospital where One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest was filmed in 1976), Ward 81 was set up as a psychiatric ward to help women in need by providing them with medical attention and isolation.
From the Introduction by Bill Diodato:
"Entering Ward 81, I found each room vibrated with pastel colors, some walls even adorned with curiously upbeat art from the patients. All this beauty was contrasted with a dense chalky air, earthy odor and constant crackling of debris beneath my feet...In the end, I can't say where exactly the many sleepless nights I spent pondering what happened to the women of Ward 81 have taken me. I simply do not know. If, by chance, it helps even just one woman and her family, I rest my head with a renewed sense of hope."- Bill Diodato
