The kind of photographer for whom it appears that success has come a little too easily, Lindsey Wade began his career as a digital artist. Despite a highly successful entry into digital imaging, Wade decided to shift his attention to shooting images to establish a more personally creative outlet.

Quickly grasping the technical aspects of photography and video, Wade's savvy approach to lifestyle, fashion, and design-oriented image making has easily lent itself to progressive, image-driven projects. Having found a natural affinity with art directors who are willing to trust his vision, he performs best in circumstances involving collaborative creative freedom. Wade's photographs evince a welcome preference for un-staged action and avoid artificial posing for a more direct, if stylistically rich, view of reality. There is a resulting natural quality to his images that encourage viewers to experience them as if untouched moments. The transition from digital artist to photographer is further evidenced in his inclination towards un-manipulated images.

Personally however, as a man of paradoxes would have it, Wade confesses the Custom Culture of hyper-manipulated motorcycles, hot rods, cars, and low-rider bikes as a primary digression.

This is Bill's first monograph. Care of Ward 81 is the first of two books on the subject. Located at the Oregon State Mental Hospital (the hospital where One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest was filmed in 1976), Ward 81 was set up as a psychiatric ward to help women in need by providing them with medical attention and isolation.
From the Introduction by Bill Diodato:
"Entering Ward 81, I found each room vibrated with pastel colors, some walls even adorned with curiously upbeat art from the patients. All this beauty was contrasted with a dense chalky air, earthy odor and constant crackling of debris beneath my feet...In the end, I can't say where exactly the many sleepless nights I spent pondering what happened to the women of Ward 81 have taken me. I simply do not know. If, by chance, it helps even just one woman and her family, I rest my head with a renewed sense of hope."- Bill Diodato
